We are all psychic but to varying degrees. Even psychic skills face logical limitations; some people are just more sensitive, sensitive in different ways, and more talented than others. Everyone can run, but some people run faster, longer, and with more grace than others. With training, you can improve and maximize the psychic skills you have, just like improving your speed, endurance, and grace as a runner.
Sometimes psychic gifts remain dormant until a specific trigger moment, like a near-death experience, or they are found through concentrated efforts at meditation and mindfulness work. There is also a wide range of talents, from simple intuition to channeling other entities to animal communication and on and on.
This article will talk about psychic skills, identifying them, and developing them.

Many Skills and Various Degrees
In part of my practice, I have developed an intuitive checklist that I go through with interested clients who want to know several different aspects of their spiritual journey including but not limited to psychic skills. The checklist covers spirit guides, meditation practices, spiritual tools, and psychic abilities. Answers are determined using applied kinesiology (muscle testing).
The checklist not only attempts to identify specific answers but also the usefulness and degree of the skill. The test is designed to go beyond just identifying a skill or tool to considering if it is a skill or tool you should use or one you should get done by another person.
In other words, you get a yes to working with tarot cards, but a no to using them for yourself. Or you may get a yes for tarot cards and direction to use them for yourself and as a reader for other people. Below are the abilities I test for in the session:
|Astral Travel (other dimensions)
|Energy Healing (Reiki)
|Psychometry (reading objects)
|Walking with Spirit Guides
Some of these may be very familiar and some may be less well-known, like bibliomancy, which is using a text to get messages. I do this practice and prefer to work with a Websters Collegiate dictionary. Telekinesis is something I interpret differently than the most obvious application. In fact, one of my all-time favorite t-shirts says, “if you believe in telekinesis, raise my hand”.
A bit more subtly, telekinesis is the ability to move something towards you or away from you. Perhaps you have had an experience, when you concentrate, of being able to have an animal approach you or someone from far away come into your life. Equally, you can, with focused effort keep people from engaging with you or re-entering your life if you have asked them to leave.
Some people attract money while some repel it. If there is a pattern or a connection between the thought and the result in a consistent way, this would a telekinetic event.
Degree of Ability
As with all skills and abilities, there are different degrees of talent and quality. One remote viewer might only be able to work in short distances and with “fuzzy” reception, while another might be able to see over great distances with crystal clear “vision”. The mix might also be a great distance-fuzzy or nearby-clear.
The first step is trying to identify the ability, then determine how strong or weak it might be. One person might be able to walk with spirits, but only the ones closest to them or directly tied to them, while another person might be able to walk with his or her spirits, my spirits, and the spirits of anyone they pass in the grocery store.
Developing the Ability
If you discover you have an ability, and the degree of strength, then you can find ways to develop it if you want to. Development can be done using practical testing, meditation, and with the help of tools, such as crystals, tarot cards, sound, and so on.
Perhaps one of the best reference books to explore is Developing Your Psychic Skills by Enid Hoffman. From the back cover of her book:
Here’s an opportunity to extend your awareness beyond your physical senses, to see behind the curtains of time and space. Psychic skills are as natural to human beings as walking and talking and are much more easily learned. Here are simple directions and the inside secrets from noted teacher and author Enid Hoffman.
Develop Your Psychic Skills gives you a broad overview of the whole field of psychic experiences. The exercises and practices given in the book are enjoyable and easy to do. Use them to strengthen and focus your own natural abilities and turn them into precise, coordinated skills.
Chapters include Altered States of Consciousness, How and What We Perceive, Training Your Projective Skills, Beliefs and Your Psychic Development, and so on. She recommends individual and group exercises throughout the book and covers topics ranging from sensing people and things to pendulum work to healing to past-life recall.
In her concluding chapter she writes, “this book is designed to place you in the position of authority and responsibility for your own life. Developing your psychic skills will enable you to gather information from a wider source, and you will develop your discriminatory faculty to examine the information received …” (175).
Like any skill or ability, it takes to study, practice, and application to develop and maximize talent. If you open yourself through meditation, guided muscle testing, or guided hypnosis, you may discover a hidden talent or rediscover talent long suppressed. Now, more than ever, our world is filled with the most comprehensive and largest pool of psychic energy in known history; it would be wise to identify any talents you have and work to polish them.
