Throughout each month transiting points create dynamic relationships with your natal chart points. Often times two transiting points will relate to one another in a way that affects us all, depending on the points involved. This article will look at one of these dynamics happening between two points this month, Ceres in Sagittarius conjunct (merging with) Jupiter in Sagittarius. When two points conjunct one another, they blend their energy and amplify each other. The point of nourishment will merge with the point of expansion.
The Conjunction, and Ceres and Jupiter
This month, when the faster moving Ceres reaches 22 degrees 10 minutes (22d10m) of Sagittarius, it will merge with Jupiter at the same degree at 12:48 pm EST on October 25th. The impact of this relationship begins to be felt up to 3 degrees before and 3 degrees after the exact aspect and is known as the orb of influence. When the faster moving body approaches, the aspect is said to be approaching and is building energy. Once the exact aspect has passed, the aspect is said to be separating and is losing energy. The duration of this particular aspect will run from October 7th to November 12th.

Ceres, the Goddess of the Harvest, is an asteroid that represents how we are best nourished, energetically speaking. She rules our energy needs and how we best “bring in the harvest” for the maintenance of our lives. Since she is a newly discovered point, first written extensively about by Demetra George in her book Asteroid Goddesses (1986), she is not assigned rulership in classical or modern astrology.
Since I have been working with the point for some time, I am comfortable placing her in shared rulership with Saturn in the 10th House of Prosperity and the sign of Capricorn, overseeing the resources needed to keep a city and civilization functioning. She is a symbol of wealth or deprivation depending on the success or failure of the food supply.
My Ceres is in Scorpio in my 1st House of Identity, so I need nourishment through intense emotional experiences and relationships. More practically, I get my needs met working with people who are navigating intense change or emotionally profound transformation. I work as a solitary practitioner rather than for an agency or company, so my “nourishment” comes from “my identity” and how clients feel after they have worked with me.
With Ceres moving through Sagittarius at this time, there is a focus on gathering as much as possible and attempting to bring in as big a harvest as possible. Some of the harvest needs to go into savings, some into business development, and some into the improvement of my home (2nd House). Most of the harvest will be achieved using my expertise (Sagittarius) as the source of increased output.
The Sabian Symbol is 23 Sagittarius, “immigrants entering”. From the book, The Sabian Symbols, author Marc Edmund Jones says, “this is a symbol of opportunity caught and held through its effective recognition in advance, here dramatized by the creative faith of those who risk their well-being in bringing their skills into pioneer areas of self-expression”. He assigns the keyword as ENTRANCE. Further, he says, “when positive, the degree is courage in crossing new frontiers and skill in repeating or improving on prior achievement, and when negative, a surrender of the real in pursuit of the false” (233).
Jupiter represents expansion, exploration, and the spread of ideas and experiences. Jupiter rules travel, higher education, and religious institutions through the 9th House of Mastership in modern astrology. In traditional astrology, Jupiter also ruled beliefs, philosophy, and spiritual wisdom through the 12th House of Spirituality. It is a fire point that travels through each sign of the Zodiac within a year or slightly more, meaning it completes a full cycle every 12 years.
My Jupiter is in Leo in my 10th House of Prosperity, in a supportive trine relationship with my Sun in Aries. Jupiter is currently in its sign of rulership, so it is “go big, or go home”! And it is moving through my 2nd House of Resources, where I have no other points. At the time of this merging with Ceres, it will form a grand trine with my natal Jupiter and my Sun, a very helpful and powerful dynamic.
With Jupiter moving through Sagittarius at this time, the entire planet is tuned into itself and how people are currently migrating and immigrating. Not surprisingly immigration is one of the central issues of our time and has been even more amplified as an issue since Jupiter went into Sagittarius a year ago.
The Sabian Symbol for Jupiter is the same as it is for Ceres since they are merging. We will see the question of globalism continue to get intense attention, with these energies very much in support of the idea that global intermingling is a positive value overall. We are all, generally, better nourished (Ceres) when we are able to merge our beliefs (Jupiter) with others from around the world (Sagittarius). Shared expertise (Sagittarius) and wisdom (Sagittarius) have the chance to give us an increase (Jupiter) and nourishment (Ceres).
Ceres Conjunct Jupiter: Big Rewards
The conjunction aspect seeks to merge energies that are in the same sign; the points and sign involved need to synthesize to get the full value of the aspect. During the period of this conjunction, the point involving nourishment and the point involving expansion must combine, creating a great deal more than they do individually, before and after synchronizing. This merging should bring big rewards; the shadow concern would be overindulgence, not deprivation.
This energy could be quite rewarding if the efforts invested and the hard work needed has been diligently pursued and applied. There is potential for there to be more than enough for everyone, and plenty that will be left over, that should be carefully stored or wisely invested. New places visited or explored could offer significant opportunities and rewards.
