Capricorn

Capricorn is the cardinal earth sign of the Zodiac, so movies for this sign should include ambitious goals, powerful leaders, overcoming great odds, and conquest. This sign loves a truly action-packed and dynamic story. Saturn rules this sign, so movies about business, the law, government, wars, nation building, and “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” will appeal to a Capricorn viewer.

Comedy

Horrible Bosses (2011)

Quick synopsis from google.com: “Nick (Jason Bateman), Dale (Charlie Day) and Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) are workers who would like nothing better than to grind their oppressive employers into the dirt. Quitting their jobs is not an option, so — fueled by alcohol and dubious advice from a criminal (Jamie Foxx) — the men devise a complex and seemingly foolproof plan to permanently rid themselves of their terrible bosses. The problem is, any plan is only as clever as the brains behind it.”

Why Capricorn Will Love It

Secretly, the Capricorn viewer might be rooting for the bosses. Comedy or drama, a Capricorn loves a good power dynamic in a story, and work is the perfect setting for much of the entertainment they will enjoy. There is a good chance, if they are a boss, that they might see some of themselves in each of the “horrible” bosses, and be able to laugh along, while work out a plot to see to it that the employees do not succeed.

Drama

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

Quick synopsis from google.com: “In 1987, Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) takes an entry-level job at a Wall Street brokerage firm. By the early 1990s, while still in his 20s, Belfort founds his own firm, Stratton Oakmont. Together with his trusted lieutenant (Jonah Hill) and a merry band of brokers, Belfort makes a huge fortune by defrauding wealthy investors out of millions. However, while Belfort and his cronies partake in a hedonistic brew of sex, drugs and thrills, the SEC and the FBI close in on his empire of excess.”

Why Capricorn Will Love It

One theme Capricorn’s love in their stories is “rags to riches.” It does not matter if the path is paved with integrity or debauchery, so long as a rise from next to nothing leads to wealth and success. If there is a dramatic downfall, that works nicely too. After all, Capricorn is both the sign of big business AND the tax collector. So, whether the characters are making it big, or tearing down corruption, a Capricorn viewer will enjoy the show.

Action

Elizabeth (1998)

Quick synopsis from google.com: “Elizabeth Tudor (Cate Blanchett) becomes queen of a divided and dangerous England in 1558. She is roundly perceived as weak by threats from within and abroad, and she is strongly advised to marry by counsel William Cecil (Richard Attenborough). But she will be married only to her country. Intelligent and cautious, she must choose where to place her trust: with her shrewd secretary Walsingham (Geoffrey Rush), a master of espionage, or her secret lover, Sir Robert Dudley (Joseph Fiennes).”

Why Capricorn Will Love It

Although a Virgo, Elizabeth was born September 7, 1533, and her life story is very much that of a Capricorn. She was dedicated to one goal, above all others, … ruling her country. She was simply smarter, and more dedicated than anyone around her, and she knew how to lead, as well as how to avoid losing power, which is almost as unique a trait for a Capricorn as exerting power. Her rule is still considered among the greatest of any monarch and any period in history.

Kids

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)

Quick synopsis from google.com: “A sweet boy from a poor family dreams of finding one of five golden tickets hidden inside chocolate bar wrappers which will admit him to the eccentric and reclusive Willy Wonka’s magical factory. One after another, tickets are discovered by ghastly children – but will the lad find the last remaining one and have all his dreams come true?”

Why Capricorn Will Love It

Remade in 2005 with Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka, the 1971 original far outshines this mostly okay attempt. Following the “rags to riches” theme Capricorns appreciate so much, the movie is a mix of the best of Capricorn and it’s shadow elements. Charlie is the central character, and the one from a poor background, emphasizing the values one learns when you have find your way through the world without a silver spoon in your mouth. All the other characters, children and adults, represent the negative aspects of Capricorn. It is a great movie for Capricorn parents who want to show their kids proper values and positive outcomes that result when acting with integrity.

Science Fiction

Alita: Battle Angel (2019)

Quick synopsis from google.com: “Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido, a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens, she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious past.”

Why Capricorn Will Love It

Status is another theme that dominates Capricorn’s interests, mainly because the sign is ruled by Saturn. This movie has all the elements of “rags vs riches” (instead of “rags to riches”), which is the kind of tension a Capricorn will like in his or her movie. Stellar special effects, futuristic technology, bounty hunting, and a city for the privileged floating in the sky … what more could a Capricorn view want?

Mystery

Nightmare Alley (2021)

Quick synopsis from Google.com: “In 1940s New York, down-on-his-luck Stanton Carlisle endears himself to a clairvoyant and her mentalist husband at a traveling carnival. Using newly acquired knowledge, Carlisle crafts a golden ticket to success by swindling the elite and wealthy. Hoping for a big score, he soon hatches a scheme to con a dangerous tycoon with help from a mysterious psychologist who might be his most formidable opponent yet.”

Why Capricorn Will Love It.

The theme remains the same, even if the genre changes, only this “rags to riches” story is bound up in a series of mysteries, cons, and heart-pounding moments. The 1940s era offers a great backdrop, showing the extreme dichotomy of poverty and wealth before the middle class began to develop after World War II and into the 1950s and 1960s. Grinding out a living and breaking through are very Capricorn narratives.

Honorable Mention
