The Many Numbers in Your Life

Numerology is the study of numbers as meaningful constructs related to human consciousness.  Numbers occupy our lives in many ways, starting with number values associated with the letters of words, especially our names.  We have the numbers of our birthdays, month, and year.

Most countries have a number sequence for citizens (in the United States, it is the 9-digit Social Security Number or SSN).  Most of us have a phone number; if we drive a car, we have a number plate.  Each word and sequence of numbers can be reduced to a number between 1 and 9, and each of those numbers has a spiritual meaning.

Numbers Everywhere!

If you are new to numerology or you have explored it only basically, by determining your Life Cycle Number (the total of your birth date – mm/dd/yyyy) and your Name Number (the total numerical value of the letters of your name), then let me expand the range of numbers tied to your life journey in this article.

As it turns out there are various number systems available to do numerology work.  The most common is the Pythagorean system.  Almost as well known is the Chaldean system.  A lesser known, but the interesting system is the Gemetria system, promoted by Marty Leeds.

If you would like to see how these different systems work with name calculations, please read my other Ask Astrology article entitled Number Systems and Your Numbers.  Any calculations using letters in this article will use the Pythagorean system.

Life Cycle Calculations

Once you have calculated your Life Cycle, you can look at a range of timing cycles starting with each year and going all the way down to each hour of the day! In my case, my birthday is April 12, 1968, or 4+1+2+1+9+6+8=31=4.

My yearly cycle is calculated by replacing my birth year with the current year, so 4+1+2+2+0+1+9=19=10=1.  So next year, on April 12, 2020, my year will be a 2.  Within my birth date are the distinct numbers of my birth month (4), my day of birth (12=3), and my year of birth (1968=24=6).

According to Morris Goodman’s book Modern Numerology, being born on the 12th day of a month means that I “have a charming effect on people and a Midas touch on situations” (34).

Also, according to Goodman’s work, I have an hourly, daily, monthly, and four-month cycle, along with my yearly cycle. Personally, I do not go as far down as daily and hourly unless I am wanting to focus on a particular day or moment for a particular reason.

Name Calculations

The starting point of your name calculation is your full given name; in my case, Philip Franklin Young.  My name reduces to a 3. Within your name is the calculation of your vowels and consonants.  The vowels represent the Self hidden within and the consonants represent the Self you present to others.

Astrologically your full name would be the Sun; the vowels, the Moon; and the consonants, the Ascendant.  My vowel vibration is 1 and my consonant vibration is 7.

Each part of your name is also a calculation.  In my case, Philip = 7, Franklin = 4, and Young = 1.  When considering your full name, do any numbers stand out individually by repeating frequently, or are any numbers completely absent?

I have four 7s and 9s among the letters of my name and zero 4s. Also important are any nicknames, name changes (through marriage or by choosing to rename yourself), or common ways you use your name, say signing documents (which I do with Philip Young, PhD).

My wife has a maiden name number, her first marriage name number, and now her current marriage name number (8, 6, 11/2 respectively).

Other Identity Numbers

Most countries have some form of citizen identification number.  In the United States, this would be your Social Security Number; mine reduces to a 3 (the same as my name number).  If you happen to have a passport and/or a driver’s license number; those are significant as well.

Your phone number and the plate number on your car also identify you and are numbers constantly in your life journey.  My current phone number reduces to a 5 and I have a personalized vehicle plate that does not have any numbers, only letters (UNYKORN), which reduces to a 1. I also calculate my email address.

I have my own business, which is certainly part of my identity, and that name and all its letters also provide me with yet another number to consider. What is the name and number of your country?  How about the city of your birth and the current city you live in?

Keep working your way down to the street address or apartment number, working with the full listing, and then considering individual segments.  In the United States, a stand-alone home address will include the street number, street name, city, state, and postal zip code.

I happen to work from home, so my work numbers and my home numbers are the same.  But if you travel to a job, the address of your job is a key number in your life.  If you work in a building with multiple floors, what is your floor number?  Do you have an office or cubicle number; what about your work phone number?

Numbers of the People Around You

Do not forget that “all your numbers” are interacting with all the numbers around you.  Working your way “inside out”, from your intimate partner to family, to friends, to co-workers/boss/employees, you can see if you find any patterns by unlocking, at the minimum, their Life Cycle and Name Numbers (you get their birth date and use the name you know them most commonly by, which may only be the first name, or in many of our cases – mom/5 and dad/9 or mother/7 or father/33/6).

Order of Importance

Without a doubt, the most significant numbers in your life involve your full birth date calculation, or your Life Cycle Number, and your full given name calculation, or your Name Number.

Numbers within those numbers, say the day of birth or your vowel vibration would be the next order of importance, as well as the name you use most frequently.  Perhaps you were born Elizabeth, but you are “known” as Liz.  Permanent identity numbers, like a citizen number or passport or driving license number, would also be in this order of importance.

After those fundamental numbers would be numbers that may have changed several times in your life, like your phone number, email address, and physical address, but are still persistent enough to be impacting you daily.  Some more specialized numbers might include the day of your marriage if you are married, or any significant date you recall or celebrate in your life.

Numbers are really everywhere and as you explore more and more of them, see if you notice a pattern, both frequent and infrequent. Notice if you find yourself observing or seeing numbers consistently, at certain times, or even before/after important moments.

I have found the number 1 repeating (like 11:11 am or pm) when I have concerns about money and need to feel “calm” about my concerns in this area of my life.

Enjoy exploring your numbers!
