The Studio Ghibli Film to Watch Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki have been producing enchantingly fantastical films for decades. There’s one for everyone, from bloody battles to adorable tales. Still hesitating to dive into watching all the films and unsure where to start? Why not choose the Studio Ghibli film that corresponds to your zodiac sign?

Aries: Princess Mononoke

The first sign of the zodiac deserves a powerful Ghibli film that mirrors their essence. In Princess Mononoke, the young Ashitaka sets out to find the forest spirit Princess Mononoke, who fights to save her land from human destruction. This film is an ode to respecting nature and the battles necessary to protect it. Aries will resonate with these ideals, from a love of nature to a spirit of adventure and confrontation.

Taurus: My Neighbor Totoro

Totoro, the emblem of Studio Ghibli! In My Neighbor Totoro, we follow Mei and Satsuki, two sisters who move to a new village with their father as their mother is ill. As they explore their new surroundings, they meet Totoro, a mysterious and gentle supernatural being who is poetic and nature-loving. This film is perfect for Taurus, echoing their appreciation for serenity and comfort.

Gemini: Kiki’s Delivery Service

Kiki’s Delivery Service tells the story of a 13-year-old witch named Kiki who moves to a city to find her place and purpose in life. To do so, she must learn to master her magical powers and so decides to start a magical delivery service by broom. This coming-of-age film is ideal for Gemini, who are always seeking new experiences and connections.

Cancer: Ponyo

Cancers love others and their family, making Ponyo the perfect Studio Ghibli film for this zodiac sign. The story unfolds in a fishing village on the Japanese coast, where Sōsuke and his mother, Lisa, live. One day, Sōsuke discovers a little fish girl. He names her Ponyo and decides to take her home. In reality, Ponyo is a sea princess transformed by an evil witch, stuck between the human world and the sea gods, trying to reclaim her true form. This tale of identity search and love will resonate especially with Cancers.

Leo: Howl’s Moving Castle

Howl’s Moving Castle will captivate any Leo. This zodiac sign, known for its charisma and strength, will be touched by the story of Sophie, a young girl transformed into an old woman by a wicked witch. She leaves her hometown in search of Howl’s moving castle, the only place where she can find a cure for her curse. Beneath its straightforward surface lies a magical and poignant story that leaves no one indifferent, not even Leos.

Virgo: The Secret World of Arrietty

You’ll love The Secret World of Arrietty, whether you’re a Virgo or not! Yes, it’s my favorite Ghibli film! It’s cute, touching, beautifully made, fun, well-crafted (am I exaggerating?). Here’s the story: Arrietty is a tiny girl secretly living in a house with her parents. They must discreetly borrow items like sugar cubes or pins from the house’s occupants. But one day, something dangerous happens… Virgos, with their attention to detail, will appreciate how nothing is overlooked in The Secret World of Arrietty.

Libra: Whisper of the Heart

Whisper of the Heart is the perfect studio Ghibli film for the zodiac sign Libra! It offers the perfect balance between adventure and love, friendship and life. The film follows Shizuku Tsukishima, a 14-year-old girl passionate about reading and writing songs. One day, she discovers a book read by a boy her age, Seiji Amasawa. Fascinated, she decides to find out more about him. Discover the rest for yourself…

Scorpio: Spirited Away

It wasn’t easy finding a Ghibli film that resonates with the intense and profound nature of Scorpio. But ultimately, I chose Spirited Away. Considered one of Miyazaki’s finest creations, it has become a classic of Japanese animation. The film follows Chihiro, a child transported to a mysterious world filled with supernatural creatures. She must find a way to return home and restore her parents (turned into pigs, one of Miyazaki’s many metaphors). Scorpios will love Chihiro’s adventures and her emotional transformation.

Sagittarius: Castle in the Sky

Sagittarius, the adventurer of the zodiac! For them, it’s Castle in the Sky! The film is action-packed from the start, with Sheeta being chased by armed men aboard an airship. She is saved by the magic crystal around her neck, which carries her to Pazu, a young boy her age. The two then embark on an incredible adventure in search of the castle in the sky. Perfect for Sagittarius’ adventurous spirit!

Capricorn: The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

Directed by Isao Takahata, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya offers a unique aesthetic. Based on the Japanese folktale “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter”, it tells the story of Kaguya, a girl found in a magical bamboo by a peasant couple who decide to adopt her. Kaguya grows up to become incredibly beautiful and intelligent, soon becoming the most renowned princess in Japan. The film focuses on her relationship with her adoptive parents, torn between their love for her and their duty to protect her from looming dangers. This lesser-known studio Ghibli film resonates with the duty-bound and responsible nature of this zodiac sign.

Aquarius: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

Only two zodiac signs left to match with a Ghibli film! Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is set in a post-apocalyptic world. Survivors have taken refuge in valleys shielded by mountains, the largest being the Valley of the Wind. Here lives Nausicaä, a young princess fighting to protect her valley and its inhabitants from those seeking to conquer it. This film is a great watch for Aquarius, as Nausicaä (like many Ghibli characters) exhibits a radical and innovative nature, unafraid to challenge conventions… much like them.

Pisces: The Cat Returns

Since when do fish love cats? Since The Cat Returns was chosen as the studio Ghibli film for their zodiac sign! This whimsical, brightly colored film will capture the hearts of Pisces with their dreamy and imaginative spirit. It follows Haru, a young girl who accidentally saves a cat in a park. This cat turns out to be a feline prince. To thank her, he invites Haru to his magical kingdom. A bonus for the film’s prevalent humor!

I loved writing this article and could have continued, but unfortunately, there are only twelve zodiac signs! Studio Ghibli has produced many more films, so don’t hesitate to explore further—you’ll have so much to learn and discover!
