Great Minds in Astrology: Jan Spiller

Welcome to a series about the Great Minds in Astrology.  Each month this post will look at the key thinkers and practitioners in the field of astrology, from ancient to contemporary times. Numerous men and women have made significant contributions to the field of astrology.  These Great Minds provide a large bibliography of writings worth reading and putting into your own astrology library.

This article will distill a thinker’s essential and many contributions and provide a book list of their key works.  As with any thinkers who write extensively, some books stand out more than others, and these will be identified.  Some works have practical application and others are theoretical, depending on whether or not you wish to practice astrology or just study it.

This article will talk about Jan Spiller.

Jan completed the first season of The Jan Spiller Show – a live, call-in advice broadcast in which she responded to listeners’ questions about astrology and read their charts to empower them with objective knowledge to help them guide their lives.

Comprehensive Astrology Library

All her books would make excellent additions to your astrology library.  As a professional astrologer, I have found Astrology for the Soul, New Moon Astrology, and Spiritual Astrology integral to my practice.  In fact, my recurring articles on the New Moon each month for askAstrology explain the New Moon “wishing technique” she describes in her book.  You can read about each New Moon here.

Spiritual Astrology (1988, 2010)

This book, co-written with Karen McCoy, focuses on the solar and lunar pre-natal eclipses and their meaning for your astrological design.  This information is not commonly known or used, except by professional astrologers.  The information within this text is invaluable and will give you tremendous insight into your spiritual purpose in this lifetime.

From the back cover of the 2010 edition:

Spiritual Astrology’s breakthrough – the startling rediscovery of the importance of solar and lunar eclipses occurring just before one’s birth – reveals the lessons you came here for and provides a revelation to anyone who has ever looked to the zodiac for guidance.

“Finally, astrology has a comprehensive explanation for prenatal eclipses as well as spiritually insightful view of the planets.  Highly recommended for anyone interested in group karma and personal purpose.” – Philip Sedgwick, author of The Astrology of Transcendence

Astrology for Women (1997)

This book is an anthology and currently out-of-print.  You can find used copies for resale on Amazon and other used book resellers.

Astrology for the Soul (1997)

There are numerous books on the North and South Node, and this is one of the best.  A definite must-have book for any serious student or professional astrologer.  The North Node is your stretch goal and the South Node is your karmic lesson. Wherever these points reside in your chart, you will want to know what Jan Spiller has to say about them!

From the back cover of the book:

Astrologer Jan Spiller shows you the key to discovering your hidden talents, your deepest desires, and the ways you can avoid negative influences that may distract you from achieving your true life purpose, as revealed in y our chart by the position of the North Node of the Moon.  With insight and depth impossible to gain from the commonly known sun-sign profiles, the enlightening self-portrait offered by the Nodes of the Moon can explain your life lessons and how to achieve the fulfillment and peace you desire.

New Moon Astrology (2001)

Perhaps one of the best, practical applications of astrology, that is readily testable, the technique explained in this book is one of my favorite rituals.  The practice keeps me attuned to the rhythm of the Moon’s cycles in the most helpful of ways.

From the back cover of the book:

In this breakthrough book, master astrologer Jan Spiller reveals the secrets of harnessing the Moon’s astonishing power to make your desires a reality.  Based on ancient rites and philosophy as well as Spiller’s own vast astrological experience, here are practical, step-by-step instructions on how to express your wishes in any area at a “magic” moment – a personal power period when astrological forces are in motion to help you realize your dreams.  Using the special Moon chart included here, and with Spiller’s amazingly effective, discover:

  • How to use the potent New Moon each month to time your power wishes
  • How to locate the three to five weeks each year when you personally are in a position of tremendous empowerment to achieve your goals, and
  • Which special Moons throughout the year help grant specific wishes, such as attracting money, romance, or travel.

Cosmic Love (2008)

Learn about the power of astrology and how to understand relationship dynamics through the comparison of two astrology charts, a process astrologer refers to as synastry.  Not the best book for beginning astrologers, but an excellent text for serious students or practicing professionals.

From the back cover of the book:

In this powerful guide, astrology expert Jan Spiller shows you how the practical science of astrology can lead to real-life results in the realm of intimate relationships.  Moving beyond the commonly known sun-sign profiles, Spiller delves into the meanings and mysteries of your personal North Node – the vital points where the orbits of the earth, moon, and sun intersect – to help you bring love into your life.

Astrology for Success (2014)

As a practicing professional, clients commonly contact me for three main reasons:

  1. Self-Understanding
  2. Relationship
  3. Career

Spiller’s first two books, Spiritual Astrology and Astrology for the Soul, address self-understanding. Cosmic Love addresses relationships.  And Astrology for Success gives insight into career.

From the back cover of the book:

One of the most important journeys in life is finding your calling, a process of identifying and embracing the best career for personal satisfaction and success. As a child, you may have intuitively identified a career path that felt exciting and right. But it’s easy to lose that belief and clarity as you navigate a confusing world. Competing and contradictory advice and expectations from friends, family, and society can make it challenging to identify what you truly want to do in the world, and how to pursue your dreams. In this inspiring, practical, and supportive book, Jan Spiller teaches you how the 10th House – or Midheaven – in your astrological chart can shed light on the tools and gifts you have to achieve success in any area of life.

I strongly recommend you get all her books; you will not be disappointed.
