Book Review: Numerology and the Divine Triangle by Faith Javane and Dusty Bunker

There are a number of books available on numerology, and most of them target a general audience for fun and pleasure.  The book reviewed in this article is one of the more sophisticated ones available and it is entitled Numerology and the Divine Triangle by Faith Javane and Dusty Bunker.

Choosing the Book

For this review process, I am looking at three main factors: the knowledge and wisdom of the author, the readability and delivery of the knowledge, and the usefulness of the book.  The book this month is targeted at advanced students and professionals in numerology.

Published in 1979 by Para Research, this book is still in print and can be purchased new from Amazon.  I found my copy in a Barnes and Noble in Asheville in 2018.  From the back cover of the book:

At last a truly comprehensive and authoritative text on numerology! Part I is a complete introduction to esoteric numerology. Part II includes extensive delineations of each of the numbers 1 to 78 and, for the first time in book form, a synthesis of numerology, astrology, and the Tarot. • Book Review: Modern Numerology by Morris C. Goodman

The book is 268 pages long and includes: a forward by Faith Javane, and one by Dusty Bunker, an introduction, two parts, and an appendix.  Part 1 has seven sections entitled:

1. Esoteric Numerology

3. God Geometrizes
4. The Divine Triangle
5. More with Numbers
6. The Life of Edgar Cayce
7. Bible Symbology

Part 2 explains Double Digit Delineations and has five sections entitled:

1. The Major Arcana
2. The Wands
3. The Cups
4. The Swords
5. The Pentacles

Essential Ideas within the Book

At the beginning of the section on Esoteric Numerology, the authors state:

Numbers, by themselves, represent universal principles through which all things evolve and continue to grow in cyclic fashion. The digits 1 through 9 symbolize the stages through which an idea must pass before it becomes a reality.  All manifestation is the result of these nine stages.

Esoteric numerology is the art and science of understanding the spiritual significance and orderly progression of all manifestation.  Every word or name vibrates to a number and every number has its inner meaning.  The letter and number code, when rightly understood and applied, brings us into a direct and close relationship with the underlying intelligence of the universe. • Book Review: The Tarot by Cynthia Giles

In our personal numerology the two most significant numbers are the delineation of our birth date (mm/dd/yyyy), which is our Life Lesson Number, and our full birth certificate name, known as our Path of Destiny Number.  These two numbers inform all our relationships with all the other numbers we have in our lives or encounter moving through the world.

In section 2 of part 1, Your Personal Numbers and Personal Years, the authors provide the explanation for the Life Lesson numbers from 1 to 9, and master numbers 11 to 44.  In my case, my Life Lesson Number is 4:

You must build a solid foundation on which to base your life.  This demands a well-ordered system of conduct and morals.  You might want to achieve concrete results quickly, and therefore, should strive for patience and perseverance.  Learn to face reality and base all your efforts on sound practical reasoning. (19)

My Path of Destiny Number is a 3:

You have talents which give you a choice of occupations or hobbies.  Your destiny is that of one who uplifts and inspires others.  If you wish to be a success, use your time wisely.  Promote friendship among your peers by being a friend when a friend is needed. (33)

These numbers and their explanations do align with the life I have pursued and lived.  They also intersect nicely with my astrology, particularly my Sun in the 6^th House, Venus in Aries, and Mars in Taurus.  Before I became a spiritual advisor, I taught for over 15 years at the college level and have always been concerned with trying to “uplift and inspire others”.

The Divine Triangle

Section 4 of Part 1, The Divine Triangle, begins:

In this chapter, we will explain how to place your birthname and birthdate on the Divine Triangle and discover the events which you will experience in this lifetime.  The Life Theorem of Pythagoras is the basis of the Divine Triangle, and as you can see from the blueprint, his right triangle is the foundation upon which each of the squares is built.

The explanation for this technique requires reading the section and cannot be easily summarized, but here is a very brief “cliff notes” attempt.  On page 52 you will see a diagram of a right-angle triangle.  Each line of the triangle has a square drawn and attached to the triangle (3 squares).  The outer lines of each square (not the ones that make up the triangle) represent a pathway of age from birth to 81.  Therefore, each line represents 9 years of life (1 to 9).

When you run the calculations as instructed by the book, you are able to determine the number for every 9 years of your life.  The first 27 years of my life connected with the number 5 as the core vibration and ages birth to 9 were influenced by the number 7, ages 10 to 18 by the number 8, and ages 19 to 27 by the number 9.  The numbers happen to be sequential for the first 27 years, but 28 to 36 were influenced by the number 3 and do not follow the sequence.  And the period of life from 28 to 54 had a core number 1.

The Tarot and Your Numerology

In the last section of the book, the authors use double-digit delineations up to 78/6.  So, in the case of my Life Lesson number, which totals 31/4, my tarot card is the 4 of Wands, making me “a natural fighter, who will fight for what I want and believe in.”  The authors describe both a positive and negative vibration for this energy.  Positively, I have “determination, energy, and patience”.  But if the energy is negative, then I am “disorganized and live a life of struggle, dispute, difficulties, and material lack”. (190)

My Path of Destiny Number does not have a double-digit and simply reduces to 3, which is the Empress card from the Major Arcana.  Positively, I am “an extremely expressive person, and I should develop my skill with words and cultivate the art of conversation.  I could do well as a teacher, artist, lawyer, judge, writer, nurse, pastor, or priest” (I have bolded the ones I am). Negatively, I would choose to “do everything in a big way … being too self-indulgent, and extravagance could be my downfall”. (129).

If you really want to explore the complexity of numbers and their spiritual significance in your life, then the back cover claim is true and this is “the book to which all books on the subject will be compared to from now on”.
