The days are growing longer, and the nights are growing shorter. In addition, the weather keeps warming up, and the time for celebrating change and growth is right around the corner.

That is because Beltane is coming up, which is the time when the summer season begins, even though the summer solstice is still around six weeks away.

However, it is a time of joy and life, abundance, and fertility, and there is a celebration for that, which is Beltane.

What Is Beltane?

Beltane is a pagan summer celebratory holiday or Sabbat around May 1st in the Northern Hemisphere and November 1st in the Southern Hemisphere. When it is Beltane in the Northern Hemisphere, it is Samhain in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa. It is the midpoint between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. “Beltane” derives from Gaelic, which means “bright fire.” Beltane reminds you of a time when it is joyous, highly fertile, and a time of new life coming. And it is one of the most lively Sabbats,

There are many Beltane traditions and rituals that pagans (and even non-pagans) utilize during the Sabbat. Some include dancing around the Maypole, gathering flowers and decorating your home with them, setting up an altar with candles and flowers, and adding yellow, green, and red.

Having bonfires is another common tradition for Beltane, and dancing around them is a common ritual. Feasts are associated with Beltane to celebrate the Sabbat with family and friends. In addition, you can enjoy barbeques to honor the spirits and your ancestors during this Sabbats. Finally, many handfasting rituals take place around Beltane. You can do any ritual that you feel is ideal for Beltane, but those are examples of common ones.

Another common tradition associated with Beltane is to do a tarot reading. And you will want to set up your altar, perform a Goddess ritual and do a tarot reading. Here is a tarot spread from Llewellyn, which is a spread to use at Beltane, as this reading confirms your sense of security and abundance or helps you find a way to regain it if not.

Beltane Tarot Spread

The spread from Llewellyn is a five-card spread in a horseshoe shape, with card one on the left, card two on the right slightly above card one, and card three at the highest on the right of card two. Then card four is on the right of card three but lower, which is at the same level as card two, and finally, card five is at the right of card four and is at the same level as card one.

The first card represents your need for emotional security, and the second card indicates your feelings of abundance. The third card represents regeneration and what makes you grow and thrive. The fourth card shows love, relationships, and all emotions, and finally, card five represents the future based on the other four cards.

You can always write a journal entry and meditate when you complete your reading. It is up to you to keep those cards on your altar until the summer solstice. And if you do not like the reading you got, you can always change your path, as nothing is written in stone.

So now I will do a collective Beltane tarot reading by using this spread and see how you can maximize your sense of security and how to create abundance in your life best.

Card One: Lovers

The first card represents your emotional security, and it is a position that indicates how secure you are within yourself. The Lovers come up, meaning you feel the most comfortable and safe when you can make commitments and honor them. You would think that this card indicates that you would feel emotionally secure if you were in a committed relationship, but that is not necessarily true. It may be true for some, but not for all. I feel that the Lovers represents what makes you feel secure if you can commit to yourself and stick to it.

For example, you can commit to sticking to a healthy lifestyle or budgeting each month and putting a spending limit on luxuries. In that case, that type of discipline will provide you with the emotional security you need because that right there indicates you are nurturing yourself. When you can nurture yourself, that provides the emotional security you need. On Beltane, do something for yourself that will make you feel secure, choose to do something good for yourself, and stick to it.

Card Two: Ten of Cups

The second card represents the abundance in your life. What makes you feel as if you are fulfilled, and what is rich in your life? It does not necessarily mean anything monetary, as it could indicate what fulfills your soul. The Ten of Cups is what comes up for the abundance position. Therefore, that means your family system makes you feel abundant, whether a few good friends or your blood family.

If you find that this does not make sense to you if you do not have many friends, look at those with whom you have tight bonds. If you have pets that give you everything, then they are the ones who are giving you the abundance you have, even if that means some close online friends who you have not met, as some may feel like family to you because they give you happiness and abundance. So when it is Beltane, stick to those who you feel are family and bask in the abundance they give you.

Card Three: Temperance

The third position represents regeneration and what makes you grow and thrive. And the Temperance comes up, which is a message for you to go with the flow. Don’t rush anything, don’t worry about the future, and don’t focus on the past. Instead, focus on the here and now. If you focus too much on the past, you will stagnate; if you focus too much on the future, you will be too anxious to focus on the here and now.

Yes, you need to plan for the future but don’t focus on it because you do not know what it will bring. If you can focus on the present and be mindful, then that is the best way to regenerate and thrive. For example, if you are so concerned about losing the last 30 lbs. so you can fit into a dress that you want to wear at your friend’s wedding, the best thing you can do is focus on your health journey one day at a time, and not worry about the wedding. If you focus on each day and how you can make the most of each day, then that will be the best thing for you to do mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Focusing on the here and now is the best way to grow. That is something to make a vow to yourself to do on Beltane.

Card Four: Ace of Cups

The fourth position represents the card about love, emotions, and relationships, and the Ace of Cups shows up, which is a fitting and good card for this position. The Ace of Cups is the start of new friendships and the development of feelings for someone, and it can even represent making amends with those who you had a falling out with so you can start something fresh with them.

Therefore, you will develop new relationships and friendships relevant to business opportunities during the Beltane season. There are a lot of new opportunities around the corner for you, and you will want to open up your heart to the love that the Universe provides you.

Card Five: Judgment

The fifth card shows the future based on the previous cards. And Judgment comes up, which is a time of self-evaluation, making choices, and awakening. Based on the other cards, you will be happy with yourself if you make the right commitments based on Lovers. If you can cherish your family or friends based on the Ten of Cups, you will find that your choices and commitments are well worth it.

If you can go with the flow indicated by Temperance, then you will feel balanced. Finally, if you make new connections and open yourself up to receive the love you get from the Universe, based on the Ace of Cups, that will also positively impact you. But if there are any imbalances with any of that, you will come into a situation where you will see that, and you will have no choice but to do some reflecting and self-evaluations and know where you need to improve. That will be your awakening.

To sum up, Beltane is a time of you wanting to make choices and commitments that will make you secure, honor your loved ones and friends, and appreciate your abundance from them. The best way to grow and thrive is to take life daily, live in the moment, be open to new connections, friendships, and relationships, and open your heart to the love from the Universe. And finally, you will come to a place of self-evaluation to make better choices or pat yourself on the back for how well you are doing.
