6 Daily Practices to be More Mindful

Often, we can find ourselves being thrown off course as life happens and we need to be on earth dealing with it.

Mindfulness is incredibly beneficial to our mental health, but it can be difficult to maintain, particularly if we are going through a turbulent and trying time.

If you find that you have strayed from ‘the path of least resistance’, or you’re just always looking to find new ways of keeping yourself on the right path- here are some little daily habits you can make in the background of your life to help you keep a good, calm head on your shoulders.

Affirmations

I often forget the power of self-talk until I intentionally recite some well-crafted affirmations.

My introduction to the power of affirmations was in the form of a Ted Talk by Marissa Peer, where she was talking about her ‘I am enough’ technique.

Sit with yourself for a moment, it will only take a few minutes, and think about what it is that you would like to attract into your life. What would make you happier? Is it an external thing you’d like to attract or are you just simply not feeling yourself?

Once you’ve determined what it is you would like, write affirmations to yourself telling yourself that you are what you wish to attract.

I’ll give some examples.

If I were to want a romantic relationship, I would recite;

“I am love, love surrounds me, I radiate beauty charm and grace, there is someone out there looking for someone exactly like me”.

This gets you into the sort of headspace, which is open to a healthy relationship, provided you know what kind of boundaries you have and what it is you’re looking for.

If I was looking to just feel better within myself, I would recite;

“I have everything I need to be able to succeed; I have the power to generate wealth, my body is healthy, my mind is brilliant, my soul is tranquil. Creative energy flows through me, I am blessed with an incredible family and wonderful friends. I am always on the right path. I am a magnet for miracles”.

You can tailor these affirmations to whatever it is you would like.

Gratitude

Gratitude is a very important tool for getting into your heart space, but you are not a bad person for feeling a lack of gratitude. It likely just means that you have had to guard your heart and your heart isn’t quite sure how to let go of its defense.

The best way to open your heart is to convince it that it doesn’t need protecting anymore.

You may need to meditate to crack through that heart shell, but once you feel that fuzzy feeling and allow it to radiate out of you- you will find lots to be grateful for.

Make it a practice throughout your day to count your lucky stars. Write about what you are grateful for. Compile a list or write a stream of consciousness. Maybe make a journal.

I personally try to do this when I first wake up, though sometimes when I’m at my desk at work I’ll get up a work document and just write.

When you’re aware of the things that make you happy, you will be happy, and more happiness will come.

Journaling

The law of attraction is a very big thing and more and more people are becoming aware of it.

The general principle of the law of attraction is that if you eliminate doubt and lower vibrational energies, there is nothing that can come between yourself, and what you wish to manifest.

A few times a week, maybe month- write as though you are a version of yourself which has everything you’re asking for.

“I am so grateful to be in a loving relationship, in my dream house, with a job that feeds my soul. I am so lucky. I am so lucky to be able to decorate the way I want with paintings hung up everywhere and a balcony filled with beautiful plants. I am so lucky that it is in the location of my dreams.”

Once you have written this, feel it. Feel it like you are there and you have this. With enough practice, feeling this will help you immerse yourself in the lifestyle you would need to maintain this life, and you will be on your way to making it a reality as a result.

Studies

An active mind is a happy mind.

Always be studying something. Whether it be painting or nutrition, medicine or literature.

Whether it means reading a different book to usual, doing a course, or having a play on duo lingo in your lunch break- discovering something new to learn about will continually fill you with a childlike sense of awe and wonder for the world.

Meditation

Never go to bed without a request to your subconscious.

As you drift into a sleep, meditate. There are thousands of guided meditations on YouTube for all different purposes. As your brain gets into the Beta brain state, you will be able to train yourself to become more receptive and aware of your own inner guidance.

Exercise

There’s a quote out there somewhere which (roughly) reads “have three hobbies. One to make you money, one to keep you healthy, and one to be creative”.

Being at one with your body is essential in being at peace in your mind, body, and soul. Emotion flows with you, it is so important to take care of yourself.

Pick up a sport, whether it be relaxed, obscure or demanding- as long as it’s something you love.
