5 Reasons to Follow Astrology

I always loved space. Particularly the moon. The Moon is a Goddess in some cultures, the stars and the way everything looks at night is like a portal to another dimension. It would take an especially trapped mind to look up at the sky at night and not question what lies beyond our little world.

To take it a step further, how does it affect us? How can it be so that we live on this little planet, a part of the whole Universe, and not somehow be connected? When the Moon rules the tide, and we are made of water, how can it be that we aren’t included in the dance that the waves are pulled in? When we were born and our birth chart was snapshotted, how does the mathematics of the universe affect the way our life is destined to play out, or who we are going to be?

Following Astrology is not denying the possible truth which may lie in other approaches, psychodynamic, Godly, or whichever take rings true to you. It’s just opening your mind.

Astrology has changed my life, I’ve found such a love for it the older I become. Here are 5 reasons to follow Astrology and hopefully become just as inspired as I am.

1- It helps us to understand ourselves, and our society

I first became familiar with astrology the same way most people do, by reading my horoscopes and familiarising myself with my zodiac sign. I always knew that it was a little more complex than just zodiac signs though, I heard someone talking about it once. I used an online website to generate my birth chart, and they wrote a transcript of what it meant. I was absolutely fascinated. I was introduced to the world of houses, planets, aspects, degrees, and how all these things make me- me. I learned about the sun, moon and rising sign and why I was so much more than just my sun sign.

It then got me curious to see what my peers’ signs were, and why they are the way they are. I then became curious about how the moon and astrological events seem to make things happen for large groups of people at the same time, and I became aware of collective consciousness.

Through exploring my little inkling of curiosity for Astrology, I have found myself feeling more connected, compassionate, and understanding of all the things that are out of my control. I now realize that things don’t happen to us, they happen for us- and with a due warning, if you follow astrology.

I guarantee that following astrology will have the same effect on you.

2- It brings you comfort to not know the answers

Sometimes I think that if we found out the meaning of it all and how everything world, we would lose our sense of meaning and purpose. I don’t even try to get to the bottom of things anymore, like wondering why tragic events happen or why certain people do things that cause harm. Astrology has shown me that life is so complex.

When so many approaches have truth to them you begin to stop trying to find the ‘ultimate answer’, overwhelming yourself with what to believe and what not to believe, and you just sit in a state of openness and oneness.

It’s not our job to determine what’s true, but to have life make a little bit of sense is enough for us to get by. There is peace in not having to know everything.

3- It’s beautiful, and there’s no denying it

Even my posters for how to read a person’s birth chart is pretty. The Moon is stunning. Starry nights, eclipses, sunset, sunrise, how the planets look from space- it’s all just so beautiful. Looking at pretty things reminds you of the wonder in life.

What more could you want?

4- It helps us help others

Following astrology can bring us a level of understanding that renders us unshakable. People don’t have to believe in astrology, or even listen to your teaching and preaching on the topic to be brought comfort by it. If you have inner peace brought about by the understanding that astrology gives you, you can comfort others who seem lost. If you notice that everybody is going through the same kind of thing at the same time, you can bring someone’s attention to the fact that we’re all in it together.

There are so many angles to see astrology from. You can use the stories in Greek Mythology to teach someone the moral of the story when it comes to each transit, you can bring comfort to someone by sharing a horoscope. It gives us a way of supporting someone else just by bringing their awareness to it.

5- It ignites creativity

The starry night by Vincent Van Gough. The many photos and diagrams of the moon taken and crafted over the years. Galileo’s discovery of Jupiter’s 4 moons, David Bowie’s ‘Starman’, Stephen Hawking’s theory of black holes were all inspired by someone looking up at night and thinking ‘wow’.

It inspires and gives life force.
