The Cancer-and-Scorpio interaction is not one of the easier trines; water signs have the most challenges interacting with each other depending on the emotional health of the individuals. As the “I nurture” sign of the Zodiac, Cancer is caring, sympathetic, and compassionate. Scorpio is the “I transform” sign of the Zodiac, and is intense, powerful, and a change agent. A long-term relationship (outside parent/child) is possible thanks to the fixed nature of Scorpio. However, this can be an overly intense and destructively passionate dynamic if other factors in the chart do not provide balance.
The Cancer parent and Scorpio child will present some challenges. Scorpio, as a type, is always trying to find out where the power lies and test that power constantly. Thus, the Scorpio child can start running the household if the parents show too much weakness. The Cancer parent will want to know how his or her child is doing at all times, which can prove unpleasant for the Scorpio child who will often want to keep his or her feelings hidden and private.
The Scorpio parent and Cancer child can work better because the Scorpio is in the stronger position of power, but the Cancer child is no pushover. The Scorpio parent appreciates the Cancer child’s intensity even they do not always appreciate where that intensity is directed. The main problem potentially arises because the compassionate nature of Cancer may struggle under the harsher aspects of Scorpio, which can be very callous in situations that will trigger the Cancer to be very compassionate.
Cancer and Scorpio friends are possible but would do best taking each other in small doses. Cancer enjoys having many friends and a Scorpio prefers to be a mystery, even to his or her friends. Scorpio is very selective about friendships, so it’s likely that if there is Cancer friendship, the Cancer is maintaining it. Since the relationship from the Cancer is naturally concerned with the well-being of any of his or her friends, and Scorpio prefers his or her privacy, the relationship can frustrate each one of them.
This romance, love, sex combination has all the makings of a story like “Romeo and Juliet” or “Tristan and Isolde”. Cancer is “I will do anything for the person I love” and Scorpio is “there are some pretty intense experiences I would like to have”. These two can “drown” in each other, going to the very bottom of the emotional depths of each person. These signs really do best matched with earth signs, just to avoid the emotional tidal waves that can form when they become intimate and long-term partners.
The Cancer employer and the Scorpio employee can work if the Scorpio employee is able to work how they would like and when they would like. As the sign that prefers to transform, the Scorpio employee will want to be in roles where transition or a shakeup needs to happen. They can be the “guard and attack dog” of the company. Cancer will want to know how the Scorpio is doing, both emotionally and professionally. If the Scorpio can figure out that it is important to share his or her feelings about the job, as well as note his or her performance, then this combination can work.
If the employer is a Scorpio and the employee is Cancer, this combination works a bit better because the Scorpio can either embrace or ignore the concern from the Cancer, which is not so easy when the Cancer is the boss. Scorpio wants things done with passion and appreciation for the results. Cancer is an extremely responsible employee and will take his or her work very seriously, which is what Scorpio does want from employees.
This combination is a bit more challenging. In the same way that the Scorpio employee cannot easily remain apart from a Cancer employer’s concern, the Cancer co-worker may overstep boundaries the Scorpio employee does not want to be crossed when it comes to being co-workers. The “equal status” may lead the Cancer co-worker to feel it is okay to “be concerned” while the Cancer employee knows clearly where the boundaries lie.
