The two basic techniques for awakening and stimulating your Chakras are mastering your breathing and the practice of visualization. You will quickly see that it is not difficult to control your breathing. Just mastering this first step will provide you with an excellent way to relax your body and your mind, combat stress, and eliminate your fears and blockages.

Mastering Your Breathing

Breath control is the basis for harmonizing your Chakras. It is also used in any spiritual process designed to provide you with greater inner balance, and a profound sense of bodily and mental well-being.

It may be stating the obvious, but it is nevertheless true to say that we are alive because we breathe, especially from an energy point-of-view. This is true in Hinduism, and in most other practices of spiritual awakening including prayer, meditation, relaxation, and so on.

In the Hindu spiritual tradition, the air we breathe is considered to be much more than a simple mixture of gases enabling the physiological process of breathing to take place and keep us alive!

Hindus call air prana or the Breath of Life. It is energy that comes from the Universe, and it is endowed with special powers. Prana is not only the oxygen we breathe, but also provides us with the vitality we need to accomplish our mission on Earth.

Your ability to control your breathing forms the basis of your success in mastering your Chakras. The method of breath control we are proposing here is both linked to your usual breathing but is also different.

The fact is, controlling your existence starts with controlling your breathing. If you are not breathing properly, you will never succeed in awakening your Chakras or attain a high degree of well-being. In other words, you will find it hard to take control of your life. To a large extent, the reason you do not attain your goals and live the life of your dreams is that you don’t breathe the right way!

If you breathe properly, you will no longer remain in your present state of dissatisfaction. You will attain all your goals and live your dream life. If you have not attained the level of happiness you seek, it is basically because the way you breathe is incorrect.

But it isn’t your fault! Breathing is a subconscious reflex, and that reflex is pulmonary – using only your lungs. Pulmonary breathing enables you to breathe, certainly, but not to resolve your problems, or free yourself from your negative emotions.

You need to switch, at least during your sessions for activating your Chakras, to abdominal breathing, i.e. breathing from the stomach. It consists of inflating your stomach when you inhale and deflating it when you exhale.

Preparatory Exercise #1: Using Abdominal Breathing to Awaken Your Chakras

  • Take 5 minutes alone.
  • Get comfortable in a quiet location you like, where no one will disturb you.
  • Sit down on a chair in a comfortable position, back straight, hands on your thighs, with your palms facing upward to the sky.
  • Close your eyes and concentrate on performing an initial cycle of abdominal breathing. Each cycle is composed of a full inhalation, followed by deep exhalation.
  • Start by inhaling slowly and deeply through your nose, letting your abdomen swell, and then holding your breath for 2 or 3 seconds. Then exhale completely through your mouth, pulling in your stomach. Hold your breath for 2 or 3 seconds.
  • Repeat this cycle of abdominal breathing for 5 minutes (about 50 abdominal cycles at 10 cycles per minute).
  • At the completion of this exercise, you should feel less tense, less anxious and fearful, more optimistic and filled with vitality.

Suggestion for making your practice more effective

Start by doing the exercise until you feel enveloped by a state of relaxation. Take your time and master the technique well, because it will serve as the foundation for awakening all your Chakras. Gradually increase the time of your practice from 5 to 10 minutes, then to 15 minutes, and so on, try to repeat your practice at least once a day for a week.

Become an Expert in Visualization

Once you have mastered abdominal breathing Exercise N°1 (practicing for at least one consecutive week), you can spend the following week working on the visualization phase as described below.

Visualization is so important because it enables you to control the functioning of your Chakras, as well as your life in general, by programming your brain in a positive way.

Visualization has been recognized, for a very long time, as an extremely effective practice in the areas of personal and spiritual development. It enables you to project the future by imagining the life you desire to lead, either generally or in specific areas. As you do so, your brain records your ideal dreamlife.

Because of this programming, your brain inspires you with ideas that are likely to help you make your aspirations a reality. It is a good thing to simply awaken your Chakras, but you will succeed even more rapidly if you have a specific goal to accomplish.

The fact is, activating your Chakras for the simple pleasure of doing so is not really an essential spiritual goal. It is preferable to have one or more objectives to motivate you. The first thing you should do is determine the reason (or reasons) that are motivating you.

Exercise #2: Visualize Your Dream-Life As Motivation to Activate your Chakras

  • Take 5 minutes alone.
  • Get comfortable in a quiet location you like, where no one will disturb you.
  • Sit down on a chair in a comfortable position, back straight, hands on your thighs, with your palms facing upward to the sky.
  • Close your eyes and concentrate on your abdominal breathing.
  • Start by inhaling through your nose, letting your abdomen swell, and then holding your breath for 2 or 3 seconds Then exhale completely through your mouth and hold again for 2 or 3 seconds.
  • Repeat this cycle of abdominal breathing for 5 minutes (about 50 abdominal cycles at 10 cycles per minute).
  • With your eyes open or closed, imagine your dream-life in as realistic a way as you can, feeling all the emotions it generates. You can use a sentence of your choice, or adapt the following formulation: “For me, my dream-life consists of … (describe the life you aspire to in one sentence).”
  • Now close your eyes and imagine yourself living the life you indicated above, feeling the positive emotions it generates: joy, serenity, self-confidence, financial security, and so on.

Suggestion for making your practice more effective

Increase the amount of time you practice from 5 to 10 minutes, then from 10 to 15 minutes, trying to maintain the same rhythm for at least one consecutive week.
