Monthly Astrology Forecast: Mercury and Your Communication

Astrology follows the motion of the solar system, deciphering meaning from the position of the Sun, Moon, planets, asteroids, and calculated points.  Throughout each month different points form angular relationships with one another known as aspects. Key aspects include the conjunction, square, trine, and opposition.

This article will look at the important aspects Mercury will form this month.  Mercury represents communication, how we project ourselves into the world and interpret the projections of others around us.  There will be four key aspects for Mercury this month: one with Juno, another with Saturn/Pluto, one with Uranus, and the last one with Juno a second time.

Mercury

Mercury represents our way of communicating, interpreting the world around us, and our learning style.  Mercury rules two signs: Gemini and the 3rd House of Communication and Virgo and the 6th House of Service/Health.  The 3rd House oversees communication, short distance travel, siblings, and the interactions of daily life.  The 6th House oversees skills needed for day-to-day work, how you prefer or are “asked” to serve, and the nature of your health.

Mercury Square Juno (January 9, 2020) – Where is this Relationship Going?

Juno, the Queen of Heaven, represents the duty of parenting and the commitment of marriage.  As a goddess, Juno ruled childbirth and marriage, and the status one must or should achieve to do both successfully.  Still considered a new point in astrology, even though Demetra George wrote extensively about this asteroid in her book Asteroid Goddesses, published in 1986 (reissued in 2003), Juno has not been assigned rulership of a sign or house.

The square aspect seeks to challenge energies to force growth; points “encounter each other” from disparate elements, in this case, earth and air.  At this time Mercury is in Capricorn and Juno is in Libra.  During the period of this square, the point involving communication and the point involving commitment will test each other.

Mercury in Capricorn has the keynote, “thoughts are expressed clearly and rationally”, and the symbol is, “a librarian arranges books according to a master plan” (Astrology, Moore and Douglas, 156). Juno in Libra has the keynote, “commitments must be fair for both parties”, and the symbol is, “both people getting married happily say ‘I do’”.

Between January 6th and January 12th, it will be time to speak up about what problems you see and feel in the relationship.  You will be able to express your concerns and worries “clearly and rationally” and you will have to hear the concerns of the other person “clearly and rationally”.

Mercury Conjunct Saturn and Pluto (January 11, 2020) – Problems with Solutions

Saturn represents rules, boundaries, and the pursuit of perfection.  Saturn rules industry, administration, government structure, and business entities through the sign of Capricorn and the 10th House of Prosperity.  In traditional astrology, it also rules Aquarius and the 11th House of Community. Now, Uranus rules the 11th House.  It is an earth point that is the outer boundary of planets that can be seen with the naked eye.

With Saturn moving through Capricorn at this time, the keynote is, “perfection is achieved through discipline and restraint”, and the symbol is “a gem cutter shapes a diamond” (161).

Pluto

Pluto represents death/rebirth, transformation, elimination, and upheaval.  Pluto rules changes brought about through intense experiences, power dynamics, and sexuality in the sign of Scorpio and the 8th House of Shared Resources and Intimacy.  It is a water point that is the outer boundary of the main astronomical bodies of our solar system.  Because it takes so long to travel around the Sun (17 to 31 years), it is a generational point.

With Pluto in Capricorn, the keynote is, “transformation takes place through discipline and persistence”, and the symbol is, “engineers and work crews build a railway tunnel through a mountain”.

The conjunct aspect seeks to merge the energies of Mercury, Saturn, and Pluto in Capricorn.  Many different opportunities converge.  Severe consequences reveal themselves for poor choices and exalted results take place for wise choices.  Problems will be significant, but so will solutions.

Between January 8th and January 14th, this will be a time to call upon critical thinking and focused effort to resolve any large issues in your life.  Mercury is the bridge between the rule maker (Saturn) and the transformer (Pluto).  Whatever might be stuck will have the chance to break free in a guided way with Mercury’s help.

Mercury Square Uranus (January 18, 2020) – Chaos Theory

Uranus represents revolution, breakthroughs, sudden changes in fortune, and emerging ideas.  Uranus rules technology and science and the benefits and problems they bring and solve for the 11th House of Community.  It is an air point that is generational, spending around 8 years in a sign.  Currently, Uranus is moving through the sign of Taurus, which it entered this year in March.

Mercury in Aquarius has the keynote, “ideas circulate through space-transcending media”, and the symbol is, “a youth talks by radio to people in foreign lands” (166).  With Uranus moving through Taurus at this time the keynote is, “revolution breaks old traditions to begin new ones” and the symbol is, “a family arrives at the restaurant in a driverless car”.

The square aspect seeks to challenge energies to force growth; points “encounter each other” from disparate elements, in this case, earth and air.  At this time Mercury is in Aquarius and Uranus is in Taurus.  During the period of this square, the point involving communication and the point involving revolution will test each other.

Between January 15th and January 21st, we will all have a chance to experience and try to grasp how chaotic the world has become, especially because of social media, globalization, and the backlash that is successfully taking hold around the world.  At the personal level, you find aspects of your life “coming apart” in order for you to rebuild them in a better way or to discard them.

Mercury Trine Juno (January 29, 2020) – Time to Commit

With Mercury moving into Aquarius, it will connect with Juno a second time this month.

The trine aspect creates support between two points; they “encounter each other” in the same element.  At this time Mercury is in Aquarius and Juno is in Libra.  During the period of this trine, the point involving communicating and the point involving duty and commitment will flow with each other. This would be an ideal time to propose, deepen a commitment, or go on a first date (energy very similar to Venus trine Juno, also happening this month).

Mercury in Aquarius has the keynote, “ideas circulate through space-transcending media”, and the symbol is, “a youth talks by radio to people in foreign lands” (166).  Juno in Libra has the keynote, “commitments must be fair for both parties”, and the symbol is, “both people getting married happily say ‘I do’”.

Between January 26th and February 2nd, it will be time to speak up about what you want from a committed relationship; what you think is the duty and responsibility you have to your relationship and what you expect from the other person.
