The event is also marked with special foods such as tangyuan, dragon dances, and other performances. For many, it is a time of joy and reflection, as the bright lanterns bring hope and peace to the world.
The origin of the Lantern Festival dates back to the Western Han Dynasty, when Buddhist monks lit lanterns to honor the anniversary of Buddha’s death. Later, during the Tang Dynasty, the festival became popular among the general public and was celebrated by the imperial court.
